1900s
1925

Sam Zeskind opens Zeskind’s Hardware at 222 S. Payson St. in Baltimore, MD.

1926

Zeskind’s appears in the Baltimore City Directory.

1930

Sam and his wife Rose live above the store with their growing family.

1930's

Miriam Zeskind marries Irvin Miller, shown with their daughter Bonnie.

Late 1940's

After returning from WWII, Irvin and Miriam open Woodlawn Paint & Hardware. Later, after Irvin’s untimely passing, the store is sold.

1953

November 10th, 1953 – Rick Miller Sr. Born to Miriam and Irvin Miller.

1950's

1960's

Rick Sr. starts working at his grandfather’s store as a teenager—stocking shelves, repairing windows/screens, and helping customers.

1973

September 30th, 1973 – Debi & Rick Miller Sr. are married.

1973

Debi & Rick purchase store from Sam Zeskind and grow Zeskind’s into a local staple for roofing materials and specialty hardware.

1979

September 27, 1979 – Rick Miller Jr. Born to Debi and Rick Sr.

1980

 All Four Generations captured in one photo.

1988

April 20th, 1988 – Debi & Rick Sr. incorporate Zeskind’s.

1992

Rick Miller Jr. begins helping at the store as a teenager, mirroring his father’s early days.

2000's
2001

Rick Miller Jr. graduates from Salisbury University Perdue School of Business.

2002-2007

Rick Jr. works in the construction and building materials sales industries while still helping on Saturdays.

2008

Rick Jr. officially joins the family business full time, aiming to modernize and expand.

2008

November 2008 – Zeskind’s acquires 207 S. Payson St., a large warehouse across the street.

2011

Purchase of 1939 W. Pratt St. parking lot; first full-time delivery driver and 12’ box truck added.

2013

First 18’ box truck; team grows to 10 employees.

2015-2016

10,000 sq. ft. warehouse constructed and finished; custom millwork production begins.

2016

Agility ERP system implemented; Greg Davis joins; 20+ employees and double the revenue since 2014.

2019

Rick Jr. completes buyout of Zeskind’s and opens a showroom in Arnold, MD.

2020

Acquisition of Lamar & Wallace, adding a 70,000 sq. ft. facility, doubling staff and vehicle fleet.

2023

Acquisition of Clement Hardware in Severna Park; Arnold showroom relocated to this site.

Rick Miller

Owner & President

Rick is proud to lead the best team in millwork and retail hardware in the Mid-Atlantic, overseeing the continued expansion of our fourth-generation company through organic growth and acquisition. He is a strong facilitator within the building products and construction marketplace. With a solid foundation of field experience combined with sales, product knowledge, manufacturing equipment specification and production methods, Rick is able to offer the best products available in the region to fit customer’s needs. Rick’s specialties include manufacturing, sales, design, production and specification of millwork (doors, windows, trim, cabinets, stairs etc…), hardware, decorative hardware, and other various building products. He oversees professional sourcing for commercial and residential contractors, as well as domestic wood products sourcing and specification.

For decades, Greg has worked with respected builders and remodelers while holding management positions at 84 Lumber, Sinclair Supply, Allied Building Products, and Lamar & Wallace. Collaboration with some of the best talent in the millwork industry has provided him with experience and knowledge unmatched in our region. Joining Zeskind’s in November of 2016, Greg’s enthusiasm and years of industry knowledge will continue to focus not only on our core trading but also nationwide. He shares Zeskind’s goal for providing unmatched quality and service in the Millwork sector, and brings a unique vision and professional structure to the company.

Having experience as a community-minded first responder as a fireman, Nick’s leadership contributions to the Zeskind’s team are immeasurable. Safety, streamlining efficiencies, networking with the Zeskind’s team, vendors, and forecasting industry activity are segments under Nick’s stewardship that all combine to elevate the customer experience. From having embraced learning about each piece of shop equipment and how it works to navigating many front-office needs and more, Nick is a key part of the leadership team at Zeskind’s. Whether a customer, a Zeskind’s teammate, a vendor partner, or other, Nick makes himself available to all who seek to engage with him, and always finds time to help whomever needs
his assistance.
