HISTORIC PROJECTS

& CUSTOM MILLWORK

Historic restoration projects require specialized knowledge, precision craftsmanship, and a thorough understanding of preservation standards. At Zeskind’s, our experienced sales team has decades of expertise helping architects, contractors, developers, preservation specialists, and homeowners source windows, doors, trim, and custom millwork that meet historic project specifications.

Historic requirements vary from project to project based on local, state, and federal preservation guidelines, as well as neighborhood architectural review boards. Whether you’re working on a Maryland Historic Trust project, a Baltimore City CHAP renovation, or another historic restoration, our team will help you identify products that satisfy the required specifications while keeping your project on schedule and within budget.

Our in-house custom millwork shop and industry-leading lead times allow us to produce historically accurate reproductions that many suppliers simply cannot. From a single replacement window to large commercial restoration projects, Zeskind’s is your trusted partner for historic building products and custom architectural millwork in Baltimore, Annapolis, Washington, DC and beyond.

Historic Wood Windows

Whether you’re replacing a single historic window or restoring an entire landmark building, Zeskind’s can help identify the right solution. Our team reviews your project specifications and recommends the best approach based on preservation requirements, budget, lead time, and long-term performance.

We offer a wide selection of historically appropriate wood windows from leading manufacturers, as well as custom-built windows produced in our millwork shop when exact replication is required. We proudly support residential homes, commercial buildings, institutional facilities, and large-scale historic restoration projects throughout the Mid-Atlantic.

Historic Metal Windows, Steel and Aluminum

Whether your project requires historic steel windows, thermally broken aluminum windows, or custom metal window systems, we work with leading manufacturers that specialize in historically appropriate products. Our team can recommend interior or exterior windows that meet preservation standards while improving energy efficiency and long-term performance.

Historic Wood Doors

Historic doors often require much more than standard replacements. Our custom door shop can reproduce virtually any historic wood door using CNC technology and traditional woodworking techniques. We build complete pre-hung door systems designed for historic buildings, including brick and stone buildings with deep jambs, custom mouldings, transoms, and sidelites. If you’d like to preserve existing stained glass or other architectural features, we can seamlessly incorporate them into your new door.

Historic Wood Moulding

Matching historic trim and moulding is one of our specialties. When an existing profile is available, we can reproduce it by creating custom knives and milling an exact match in our shop. For projects with greater flexibility, our knowledgeable team can help identify the closest existing profile to save time and cost. For larger production runs, we partner with specialty mills to provide competitive pricing, high-volume production, and optional factory priming.

Historic Material Duplication Services

Our capabilities extend far beyond windows, doors, and moulding. We regularly duplicate historic architectural woodwork including stair parts, balusters, newel posts, handrails, cornices, decorative brackets, columns, and other custom millwork. If you have an original piece, we can often recreate it with remarkable accuracy while preserving the character of the building.
